This kit was kindly provided by HobbyCo and is my 18th build for 2023.
Well Witch from Mercury is finally over and the highly anticipated HG Calibarn Gundam bookends the fantastic line of High Grade kits that the series spawned. Despite it’s extremely brief appearance in the anime, it’s actually a pretty cool design leaning into the whole “Witch” theme with the broomstick rifle and all.
The kit itself has some pretty glaring seam lines, being on the backpack thrusters and one going down the entire length of the variable rod rifle. If you can overlook these then this kit might have a chance at being the best WFM kit, however as a builder having to actually deal with these it loses a few points from me in that regard.
Painting
White – Mr Color 306 base coat, followed by Mr Color GX Cool White for highlight.
Yellow – White primer, Mr Color Orange preshade, Starter white technique, followed by a light coat of Gaianotes Orange Yellow + bit of Yellow light coat, then a highlight adding White + Yellow +bit of orange yellow then using the original base coat color to mist/blend
Red – White primer, Mr Color Red Brown preshade, Starter white technique, Yellow highlight, then a coat of Mr Color Shine Red + Mr Color GX Harmann Red
Grey – Base coat of Mr Color Phantom Grey, white added for highlight then Phantom Grey + bit of black for post-shade.
